This touching minimalist depiction of a mother zebra and her foal has a sweet air that exudes warmth and tranquility. The juxtaposition of the stripes gives the illusion of 3 dimensions, especially when viewed from a distance.
Artist’s Thoughts
I particularly enjoyed the challenge of positioning stripes on stripes in order to achieve the dimensional effect.
Striped Motherhood was one of my earliest serigraphs, drawn while I was still teaching high school art. Through the school, I had access to scraps of Hallmark card stock. I used some of those small scraps to print this design.
